Report: Eminem sues Apple for copyright infringement (news.com)

"All the publishers are rankled that they have to go after the record labels to collect their fees," Sloan said. "Sometimes these fees may not be accounted for properly. The publishers would prefer to collect directly from the source instead of the labels."

From the rumour mill:

The analyst, who did not cite sources, said he also expects the company to launch a new family of iPods around the same time, which will pack significantly greater functionality at current price points, "including the much-anticipated full screen video iPod."

Woo-hoo! I hope so ... and I certaintly hope they are wide screen.

What do you think of Sonicbids? (projectopus.com)

I've been looking into SonicBids, an EPK (Electronic Press Kit) service for musicians. I found a lively discussion on use of the service here:

What do you think of Sonicbids? (projectopus.com)

What makes the discussion worthwhile is that someone from SonicBids chimed in and addressed concerns.

UPDATE: I've talked to a few bands about this and - well there is a lot of negative feelings from bands that have used the service. Not a great endorsement.

Micro-blogging

People keep asking me what the point is of Twitter and Pownce. Well the term to describe at least one aspect is "micro-blogging."

You can find a definition here:

One of the more well known Twitters is Robert Scoble:

New Halo 3 Trailer

Rockosphere now on Pownce

I put in a request to sign up for the Beta of Pownce a while ago. I was finally let in.

You can find the Rockosphere profile here:

http://www.pownce.com/rockosphere/

What is Pownce? Um, well, um - I know it was started by Kevin Digg.com Rose. Seems to be yet another social networking tool. Here, I'll let them explain:

About Pownce

Pownce is a way to send stuff to your friends. What kind of stuff? You can send just about anything: music, photos, messages, links, events, and more. You can do it all on our web site, or install our lightweight desktop software that lets you get out of the browser.

Who makes this thing?
Pownce is brought to you by a bunch of geeks who were frustrated trying to send stuff from one cube to another.

The team consists of Leah Culver, Daniel Burka, Kevin Rose, and Shawn Allen (in that order below). Together, we formed a wee company with a great big name, Megatechtronium, that makes this software.

Video Podcasting Nearly Killed The Tech Blog Star (blog.wired.com)

Video Podcasting Nearly Killed The Tech Blog Star (blog.wired.com): "But Malik—as much as I absolutely love his writings and his new crop of websites—is simply not a talkshow video star in the making. Some people just aren’t cut out for audio/video media."

This is why I prefer the role of producer and to use a host whenever possible -- or at least keep my presence to a minimum. I'm quite happy being known as the "disembodied voice" in our videos. Besides, I know several podcasters where I'd just like to grab them and say "Dude, it isn't about you."

NEMO Music Festival focusing on other things.

Just got this in my inbox. You can also read about it on their site:

"We have decided to take a year off from the NEMO Music Festival while we focus on the 20th Anniversary of the Boston Music Awards, the Starbucks Music Makers Competition, the Verge College Music Conference and other entertainment related projects. We plan to revamp NEMO and do something bigger and better in 2008. We will keep you posted."

Man flies 193 miles in lawn chair - CNN.com

Man flies 193 miles in lawn chair - CNN.com: "Couch is the latest American to emulate Larry Walters -- who in 1982 rose three miles above Los Angeles in a lawn chair lifted by balloons. Walters had surprised an airline pilot, who radioed the control tower that he had just passed a guy in a lawn chair. Walters paid a $1,500 penalty for violating air traffic rules."

Behind the Scenes at Galaxy Park Studios

This weekend I was the guest of sadbastardgoespop and Galaxy Park Studios in Boston. They allowed me to film an upcoming podcast featuring their recording session.

While I edit the video, you can get a behind the scenes look at some still photos that I shot and posted to the Rockosphere account on FlickR:

RS-0014 - sadbastardgoespop - Rehearsal June 2007

In our first video episode, our host Jimmy Rochelle finds himself on the other side of the interview. See as our producer, Mitch Allen, interviews his band sadbastardgoespop. We also show clips from rehearsal as they prepare to go into the studio in July. For more info on the band, please visit http://www.myspace.com/sadbastardgoespop
Update: After I posted the video, the band informed me that their name is actually one word, no cap's. But it was too late to change the title in video.
