Stupidity in large numbers doesn't equal smart (bynkii.com)

Stupidity in large numbers doesn't equal smart (bynkii.com)

"It just equals mass stupidity.

One of the things I rant about regularly is the tendency towards "echo chamber" behavior in the "blogosphere". That is, one site publishes something and dozens more all automatically agree with it, even if it's stupid. Sometimes, especially if it's stupid."

Technosnobs

In case you haven't figured it out from my various postings, my day job is in high tech. Specifically I work for a software company. This is something that I have been doing for many years. During the 90's I was even a manager in a dotcom. I've also written books about programming, and have worked a lot with "New Media" like Flash, etc.

To showcase things like my podcast and the band that I manage I have to research and use a lot of Web based tools like MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, etc. I know a lot of things about computers, podcasting, New Media, the Web etc. But unlike some of my fellow nerds - I don't need to be a #$%$@ snob about it.

What's got me started? Well this weekend I convinced a bunch of people to go to a conference on podcasting. Last year the conference had a fun, open atmosphere where even if you didn't know anything, people would help you learn. This year, what happens? One of my guests asked someone what Twitter was and they got an eye roll. Someone who was there to learn about new media was dissed - by one of the organizers - for working in old.

I'm embarressed to be a nerd. Most of the people that work at my software company don't know what Twitter is. Lose the attitude.

Getting ready for PodCamp Boston 2

Today I have several things to do. I want to put together a behind-the-scenes podcast episode. It's for the sadbastardgoespop "Shut" music video that we shot last weekend.

I also have to get ready for PodCamp Boston 2. I'm trying an experimental booth concept. Bands will be performing acoustic sets out of my 10x10 booth. I'm keeping the decor to a minimum - one 4ft vinyl banner. I've told bands they can bring all their swag and leave it about. I hope it's true that I'll have tables and at least one chair available!

I will probably just bring the Sanyo Xacti and leave the HD camera and tripod at home. This is an experiment. I hope it works and people get what I was trying to do.

We found an actress

Steve and Victor managed to come up with an actress for the music video that we are filming this weekend. So our search is complete. Though I have other projects in mind. Feel free to continue to submit headshots and resumes.

Between this video, podcamp and the CD release gig, I plan to spend the rest of 2007 napping (well, when not editing a backlog of video!).

But stay tuned in 2008. I have several things planned. This will include more music videos and perhaps even a science fiction series. More later.

Kudo's to Sari Gagnon (www.myspace.com/scarisari) for being the only applicant who could follow instructions and contact me through the Rockosphere.TV social network. If you tried replying to the Craigslist posting the day I posted it instead of through the instructions, I didn't get your e-mail. My ISP had problems. But had you followed the instructions ...

Finished Halo 3

I finally picked up an XBox 360 so that I could play Halo 3 last Friday. This morning I finished the game. I guess I'll have to go back and try again in legendary mode.

Yes, I did get the Halo version of the XBox. I also got the limited edition of Halo 3 itself. Master Chief's head is sitting on my desk at work - next to my Borg head.

Booked another gig

Besides the TT's CD release gig on November 7th, I've also booked sadbastardgoespop at The Bulfinch Yacht Club (http://www.thebyc.com) on December 19th. It should be appearing in their listing soon.

The sadbastardgoespop CD gig

After a gazillion e-mails, we finally managed to nail down a bill for the sadbastardgoespop CD release gig at T.T. The Bears Place in Cambridge, MA.

The show is happening the night of November 7th. You can find the listing here:

http://www.ttthebears.com/public/calendar.php?month=11&year=2007

And more info here:

http://www.sadbastardgoespop.com

I have permission to video the performance, but only if I use a handheld camera, no wires and don't mess with the lighting.

So I just ordered the uber battery for my Sony HVR-A1U. Fortunately it has Nightshot, so I can film in what one guy calls "Stalkervision"

Then this month we are also planning a music video shoot. On top of that I have to get ready for managing a 10x10 booth at Podcamp Boston at the end of the month.

November 8th, I plan to take a very long nap. No wait, day job - rats.

spider vs. hornet

Maybe I have way too much time on my hands:
